Dickens Carolers Make Special Island Appearance at Bridge Street Christmas Event
The annual “Christmas on Bridge Street” event, held in Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island’s south end, includes “some old, some new, all festive,” say event organizers. This year the popular island event takes place on Saturday, December 19 from 4:30-8:30 PM, and visitors can also view the Cortez Yacht Club’s Boat Parade starting at dusk.
A new addition to the live entertainment schedule will be the Dickens Carolers, currently performing in Bradenton at the Powel Crosley Estate. The troupe of professional actors will be in period costume to sing and story-tell with sets at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.. Island duo Russ & Brandi will host the entertainment program again this year with their signature spirit-filled acoustic style of music. There will also be two different elementary school-aged singing groups performing: the experienced chorus from the Rowlett Academy in Bradenton and the all new Joyful Noise choir from Roser Church in Anna Maria.
The area’s best hot chocolate bar returns again this year with “way more than marshmallows,” says Caryn Hodge, event chair and marketing director for the Chiles Restaurant Group. In addition to the special sales offered by the various retailers on Bridge Street, the event features its own Holiday Market. The Children’s Craft and Cookie Bazaar is a returning highlight to the artisan market. For more information on vendor space, for children or adults, contact Cindy Thompson at firstname.lastname@example.org or (941) 536-4257.
“We really want the focus to be on the entertainment this year, and our artisan vendors of all ages,” says Amanda Escobio, Secretary for the Bridge Street Merchants and owner of Sea-renity Beach Spa & Eco Boutique. To achieve the goal of streamlining the fundraising, raffle tickets are being sold in advance for the first time ever and a silent auction will run during the event. This year, Roser Food Pantry will be the sole beneficiary for cash proceeds.
The event has earned a reputation for having an extensive collection of prizes, including gift certificates for massage on the beach, Segway tours, mini-golf, dolphin tours, restaurants, hotel stays and more. Merchants on and off Bridge Street donate jewelry and other gift items. Designer holiday wreaths are among the thousands of dollars in prizes. The wreaths are currently on display at “Santa’s Workshop” in the rear of the BridgeWalk resort at 100 Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach. Visitors may purchase raffle tickets at Bridge Street Interiors / Mermaid Haven and also at the weekly Sunday Market.
Christmas on Bridge Street takes place in the Market lot at 107 Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island. Everyone is encouraged to take the free island trolley from anywhere on the island. Parking is available in the City Hall Tingley Library lot, in the post office lot, along the public beach just south of Bridge Street, behind the BridgeWalk resort, or on Bridge Street itself.
